Why this costs a dollar.

Vicariously live the early stage startup life.

In the past, I used to write a lot. Sometime after I moved to NYC, got through grad school, and started a company, the habit faded into the background. Now I am bringing it back. The format is the same: intelligent, honest, and self-aggrandizing thoughts smeared into charismatic but occasionally poorly edited prose.

One of my goals in writing is to capture the journey that I am going through as an early-stage immigrant founder building and selling in NYC. I have not seen people write about this experience enough, partly because it’s rare to have such an experience. I also aim to be squarely transparent in my writing. Being open in public is something I believe will improve the quality of my work and not give me room to hide from flaws in my business model.

Why one dollar?

But since I aim to be quite open about things, I expect a level of commitment from my readers, too. That commitment is in the form of a dollar. I believe that if a person is ready to overcome the friction of pulling out their credit card and giving me that $1 to read what I write, they are good faith readers. Why a dollar? That’s the lowest beehiiv allows me to go. I wanted it to be 25 cents. I don’t want to make money off this. But I don’t want to give this away for free.

Cadence.

I will publish at least once a week, at most thrice a week.

What will I write about?

Things nobody talks about during the early stages of startups. Things like:

  • How much do I pay myself, and how did I decide that amount

  • How and why I pivoted in the past

  • How is life as an immigrant founder

  • My experience at one of NYC’s best accelerators

  • How much I have raised, and what my cap table looks like.

  • My go-to-market strategy, what works, and what hasn’t worked.

  • Pricing

  • And much more

If you think this is something you want to follow, pull out your wallet and be my guest. I will see you again this Friday (after you fork over your dollar of course)

Edit: Decided that all money goes to charity.
